Building Needs
Assessment Work Group: Met 10/21/2021. You may view the action items and
details in the minutes of the last meeting online. We are getting ready to
sign the documents with the architect and trying to get the calendar nailed
down since Madison has an extensive review process prior to building. The SCLS
Board will be presented with documents to sign at their October meeting. Once
the letter of intent is signed, the City of Madison goes through their process
and start writing the documents that come before us to purchase the land.
M. Van Pelt addressed some questions that were provided to her. One of the
questions was regarding whether this is a good time to build a new building in
this time of fluctuation of COVID, with building prices being high, and not
knowing what the future will hold. SCLS is paying rent on two buildings and
rent goes up every year and we pay taxes through the rent. With a new
building, we would not be paying taxes, the mortgage will be a set amount and
we would have a physical and fiscal asset that can be sold if things change.
Staff are working remotely but there is a mandatory attendance for some
circumstances, plus delivery staff will be in the new building. HQ
administrative staff will be physically on site weekly and we need a building
to house our data center and meeting rooms.
g.
ARPA status – M.
Van Pelt/V. Teal Lovely: SCLS has teams working on the three competitive
applications and the survey sent to the member libraries is due today. J.
Bergin expressed her thanks to the SCLS staff who are working on writing the
grants.
S. Hetzler inquired if there a possibility that the June 30, 2022 deadline will
be extended? The answer is no.
M. Van Pelt noted the SCLS Foundation is donating $1,550 to the SCLS Advantage
account.
