4. Discussion items:
a. Delivery Update:
i. Corey walked through a PowerPoint that he shared with the All-Directors, Board of Trustees, and Delivery Staff regarding the ongoing budget challenges for 2022 and beyond.
ii. The budget formulation is awaiting confirmation of a State Aid to Systems increase as it works its way through the legislative process. The budget has proceeded to this point as if the additional funding is not in place.
iii. Delivery will be preparing for a slight increase in service for intersystem customers in 2022. Helping to fill the budget shortfall is our intent to provide the added service without additional hiring of staff. This will make us very tight for available hours.
iv. Saturdays are not being planned for 2022. Jen mentioned that 2 cluster libraries inquired about Saturday restoration. The consolidation of our staff and the 15%+ reduction in volume has allowed us to be more efficient during the Monday-Friday route structure. We have been able to replicate Saturday service by running out a 2nd trip late on Fridays to Dane North and Dane South. The additional resources for adding Saturday staff hours back in would be approximately $25,000.
v. Corey shared a concern from a member library about an observed increase in damage to DVDs, CDs, and other media cases in delivery. Corey shared that there have been a seemingly larger number of broken pieces within the red baskets both on return to delivery and at libraries (as mentioned). The initial reasoning could be related to our quarantine. As we had staged baskets upon one another in taller stacks, the weight may have slightly collapsed the lids on the lower baskets “caving” them in slightly upon the contents within. Other committee members offered similar thoughts (Jen: Similar activity in book drops. Eric: MCM has seen minimal issues. Leah: shipping in general leads to some expected damage. Eric: Patron use is just as harmful as transit.
vi. Corey shared that Delivery had newly established a “mask optional” procedure for in-house operations only. The procedure is for vaccinated staff only (without formal proof of vaccination for anyone). All of the library stops we make will maintain mandatory mask-use until we can definitively narrow down any stops that remain “mask mandatory.”
1. Other procedures that have been modified: Surface spray has been removed from trucks, but remains available. Breakroom is open to more than one person (unmasked) provided all are vaccinated. Also, in the event of a positive COVID case, tracing will be done to further identify possible sustained exposure. We do not anticipate an operational shut-down like we may have applied in the past (due to our 90% vaccination of all staff)
2. Sanitizer, work zone separation for sorting, single drivers, and reporting of symptoms remain in place.
5. Reports (for Committees only)
a. No Reports
6. Items from clusters (for Committees only)
