4. Discussion items:
a. Red Carts: Corey Discussed the challenge of maintaining an ample supply of red carts.
i. New carts cost about $500 each (frame is $350, casters $150). A minimum purchase from Hoffman is 20. We are having to get into 2024 before entertaining that step.
ii. Corey issued a call to the members to return and free up any stockpiled or unused carts. That helped significantly.
iii. Questions have been asked by the membership to cooperatively purchase carts in order to stage more at libraries who would like to have them on hand to facilitate their processes and eliminate lifts. Those will absolutely be encouraged in order to beef up the supply that we will need as we transition to a new space.
b. Corey shared that statewide delivery continues to make some slow progress and the upcoming WPLC visioning session would help frame some more of the structure that Delivery would take going into the next two years
c. Corey also shared a concept for 2025 where we would explore the viability of sending a box truck to the large libraries of Portage and Wood counties (MCM, MFD, STP, etc.) 5-days a week and then a van could take the remainder of the smaller-volume stops and go 3 days a week (MWF). Those stops already have a predominance of 3 times-per-week frequency, so it may represent a significant savings that is worth further investigation throughout 2024.
d. Corey also shared the current status of the building project and conducted a short tour for Todd Cox and Jen Foster at the conclusion of the meeting. Corey hopes to have more in attendance on site soon as the project nears completion.
