Action Items:

Consensus around ideas for potential 2025 SCLS Foundation funds.

 

Present: Leah Bauer (POY), Leah Fritsche (DEE), Brenda Massei (MNT), Melissa Roelli (MTH)

SCLS staff present: Jean Anderson, Shawn Brommer, Tim Drexler, Mark Jochem, Tracie Miller, Rose Ziech.

 

 

1.      Call to order time: 9:06

a.      Introduction of guests/visitors: None

b.      Changes/Additions to the Agenda: None

c.       Requests to address the Committee: None

 

2.      Approval of previous meeting minutes: August 13, 2024

a.      Changes or corrections: None.

b.      Approved by motion: Leah B, Melissa R, approved.

 

3.      Action items

a.      Recommend ideas for potential 2025 SCLS Foundation funds. The SCLS Foundation will have $5997 available for SCLS to spend.

                                                              i.      Escape Room props kit. Discussion:

1.      Codes will need to be changed.

2.      Jean will increase the request by approx. $250.

3.      Leah Bauer: Be aware of replacement needs, maintenance costs.

                                                             ii.      Zspace kit. Discussion:

1.      Melissa: How would library staff learn how to use it? How would library staff know how to help patrons use it? (Concerns about staff time & learning.)

2.      Tracie: ultimate goal is ease of use and spectacular technology.

3.      Brenda: asked follow-up questions, is this more of a community-partner resource?

4.      Mark: this has applications for workforce development and job support.

                                                           iii.      Other suggestions? Discussion:

1.      Book Repair kit request/proposal (per Jean) - lots of interest in the Book Repair Kit.

2.      Murder Mystery kits.

3.      DVD resurfacing machine.

                                                           iv.      Consensus: Don’t get a Zspace kit at this time.

1.      It’s good to have a lot of ideas here - whatever money is left will be put toward the Advantage Account in Overdrive.

2.      Jean will submit a proposal to the SCLS Foundation board at their October meeting.

3.      Follow-up: publicity/short training videos that highlight the new resources and how to use them.

4.      Keep the ideas coming!

 

4.      Reports

a.      IDEA Team: (Mark) Assembled an IDEA team BIPOC-centered unconference advisory group, whose purpose is to identify topics to explore at the unconference (tentative date: Spring 2025).

b.      Social Work Intern Cohort – nothing to report, but it is open to more libraries and sign-ups are welcome.

5.      Discussion

a.      SCLS Kit Team update (Jean): Everything is moving forward!

                                                              i.      Working on the request forms.

                                                             ii.      Goal: process is in place for adding new kits.

b.      Contact form ideas – form was not sending email notifications so these are since June (the form is included in every week’s Top 5):

                                                              i.      Envisionware lockers (POY) – looking for more info on other libraries using exterior lockers and whether there are grants or funding assistance available. Referred to Vicki Teal Lovely.

                                                             ii.      Icons on public computers suggestion from MTH (GCF Global) – This would go to the Technology Committee if a change is requested. Tip: this link is also on the Resources for Job Seekers page too (along with other Computer Skills training resources).

1.      The SCLS Tech committee would need to look at this.

2.      Libraries can always put informational links on their web sites (per Andrew H, SCLS).

3.      Find your library cluster’s rep on the tech committee and LIS members (Melissa) can make a recommendation to discuss this at an upcoming meeting.

c.       Library visits (Melissa): MTH created Social Narratives that are posted on their website.
