a.      Approve final 2025 technology budget proposal

a.      Motion: L. Schmiedicke moved approval of the final 2025 technology budget proposal.  J. Holmes seconded.

b.     Discussion:  This is the second version the group is seeing.  The TC approves this and then it’s used to create the fees.  The fees are voted on at the All Directors meeting.  After that, the budget goes to the SCLS Board for final approval in September.  Telecomm includes network and wireless access points.  Software is for PCs in libraries and central server software.  Support equipment is anything we purchase at SCLS used to support Technology.  Broadband costs remain stable.  Under what’s changing, V. Teal Lovely summarized the big changes.  We have piloted a different brand of network equipment, which has lowered costs for libraries. However, the cost of access points continues to increase. The budget shows 3% increase mainly due to salary increase due to two years of staff Cost of Living increases reflected in this budget.  State aid allocations offsets these increases, so the increase to libraries is around 1%.

c.      Vote: motion carried.

  1. Discussion
    1. InfoSec training for all SCLS-supported email account users

                                                    i.     Discussion: We have a number of libraries already participating in the InfoSec training program. Every staff member who has an SCLS email will be signed up for this.  There is a document provided that helps to understand different kind of risks and V. Teal Lovely reviewed it.  J. Holmes had one comment on the document.  She asked that we please use the whole name for abbreviations (GDPR, HIPAA, etc) the first time.  She also requested that SCLS give libraries clear instructions for how to respond to suspicious emails.  V. Teal Lovely said there will be documentation provided on how staff can report these.
