What is ‘Home Library’?

If your library card is from a LINKcat library, your default home library is the library which issued your LINKcat library card.  For various reasons (see below) you may request that another library be your home library.

If your library card is from another South Central Library System (SCLS) library, your home library is the library that issued your library card.

How do I know what library is my home library?

If you have a LINKcat library card, you may ask staff at any LINKcat library to see what library is listed as your home library.

If you have a library card from a non-LINKcat SCLS library, your home library is the library that issued your library card.

Can I change my home library to another library?

Yes.

But for LINKcat libraries, home library can only be changed by library staff.  You may ask staff at any LINKcat library to change your home library to another LINKcat library.

If you have a library card from a non-LINKcat SCLS library, and want another library to be your home library, you will have to go to that library and apply for a card.

What are the ramifications of changing my home library?

For LINKcat libraries, the home library indicator serves two purposes:

  • It determines where you will pick up holds.
  • It determines which databases you can access from outside the library.

If you change your home library to another library and you place a hold for an item in LINKcat, the pickup location will automatically be your “new” home library (although you can change this, on a case by case basis, at the time you place a hold).
